Skid Pan TrainingThis part of the course takes place on our clean water skid pan area using one of our skid cars. Here you will learn skills to help you recover control of your car if it goes past its limit of grip. During this session you will learn both skid control techniques and how to maximise the benefits of Anti Lock Braking Systems. Follow this link for full details of our skid pan training. Advanced Driving on Road TrainingThe on road training element of the training is equally as important and covers how to avoid getting into that emergency skid situation in the first place! This is achieve by learning Defensive Driving skills from a DSA approved instructor. Defensive Driving focuses the ability to see potential hazards earlier, anticipate the possible outcome and then develop a plan to handle the situation safely See our main website DriverSkills.com for full details. The standard course format uses the participants car for the on road part of the training, but a car can be provided if required. 1/ Vehicle Safety ChecksYour instructor will first show you how to carry out some vehicle checks to ensure that your car is roadworthy and also ask to see your Insurance and other relevant documents along with your drivers license. 2/ Initial Driver AssessmentThe first part of the course involves you driving for a few minutes whilst the instructor makes a few notes to help him/her determine where you need the most training. This will help your instructor structure the course to suit you and also focus on areas and driving situations that you may have problems with. 3/ Defensive Driver TrainingDuring this part of the training your instructor will help you develop your driving in the areas highlighted from the initial assessment. 4/ Fuel Saving TechniquesYou will also be encouraged to plan further ahead to avoid unnecessary gear changing, braking and hard acceleration. In addition to making your journey safer this technique will also save you money on your fuel bills. 5/ End of Course AssessmentAt the end of the course you will recieve a detailed Driver Report Document TimingThe day is split into two sessions with a half day spent on our skid pan area and the other half day out on the road the precise format is dependant on the day. DurationThe Morning session is between 9am and 12pm, with an hour lunch break and the Afternoon session is between 1pm and 4pm. There are tea and coffee facilities available throughout the day and lunch is available to purchase on site for a reasonable price. The Skid Pan VenueThe skid pan session takes place at our skid control centre which is situated on the outskirts of York. Once you have completed your skid pan, one of our Advanced Driving Instructors will take you out in and around York. |
